little gem - This CD is a must have. I lucked out finding this a year ago in a discarded record bin. I never heard of the group, was attracted to the name. Since it was dead cheap, I purchased it. What a Find!Terrific pop group, with airy, jangling sounds, true ear candy. Don t know what the heck happened to this group, but a real shame they did not continue. This cd tells you somethings were not meant to be. Still a record to leave behind.
Power Pop Masterpiece! - There She Goes is a pop song for the ages and this release is power pop perfection from beginning to end! Easily my favorite CD from the 90 s with every song full of memorable hooks and melodies! The remastered version has some extra goodies (especially Knock Me Down) that make it well worth replacing the original release.
More than just Another Power-Pop Album. - The La s with songwriter Lee Mavers was a short-lived Britpop-band ( powerpop ) which over the years have achieved semi-legendary status for their one album and their timeless pop-tune There She Goes. Their self-titled album was originally released in 1990 before the term Britpop wave really started. Though the band is obviously very British, I also feel a strong simlariy with legandary powerpop group Big Star s first two albums. And the La s There She Goes is in my view up there in the same league as Big Star s classic September Gurls.Though There She Goes is obviously a stand-out track there are several great songs on their album, and it really works great as a whole. The short melodic opening track Son of a Gun is the perfect opener - reminds me of early REM. In fact, the first five songs are all great. After a couple of less important songs the great Way Out and I.O.U. fire up the album again. Closing track on the original album is the moving long acoustic ballad, which worked a a grand finale for the album. This CD re-release contains 5 bonus-tracks all of which are interesting. Especially first 3 are great additions. All By Myself is another track reminding me of Alex Chilton and Big Star. Clean Prophet and Knock Me Down both would have fitted the original album fine.
A masterpiece - This was the best record of its period probably. It is one of the rare instances where pop and rock are perfectly conjoined. Songs such as Feelin and Here She comes are simply timeless classics. Of course they were never able to do anything after this. Obviously.
the La s - I got the CD for the song, here she goes so I could go back to being a teen again! Otherwise it is that early 90 s old 80 s sound.
